Who Got Whose Back?
July 20th, 2008 by Braddah LanceYou guys had to have seen it coming by now as I’ve - dunno who else - been asked to help support our efforts by suspending WWD! until a fair contract is agreed upon.
If you haven’t noticed, most of the staff bloggers are newsroom staff and while I’m not in that department it’s about supporting each other in this troubling time.
I hope everyone who drops in to read WWD! will understand that it’s a show of unity to suspend our wala’au sessions. I also hope during this time we don’t lose any readers and supporters.
So keep checking back all you Kwonics, Lanceformers and Lurkahs cause I’m not sure how long this will be.
Hopefully we’ll be back sooner than you know it…cause I’m sure by then I’ll have more than enough WWD! moments to share with you all!
And to finally answer the WWD! First blog (record postings I might add - Au’right!), Terri and I will be celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary dinner at DK Steakhouse this weekend…. full review to follow…. pics too!

As someone who reads other HA blogs the situation is pretty clear. Folks have got to stick together in solidarity. As the industry changes, for the worse I may add, there should be fair compensation for hard working, dedicated employees. These media conglomerates are making bank but they continue to tell the sob story of decreasing profits. There needs to be a balance between the workers, as well as the public they server, and the shareholders.
Hang in there BL, you and the rest of the HA staffers have my respect and support.

Braddah Lance - I enjoy your blog although this is my first post. We can do our part of supporting you and your fellow workers by buying a subscription to The Advertiser. I just renewed mine and my in-laws just dropped the Star-Bulletin to get The Advertiser. It doesn’t cost that much. How ’bout it?

nah, hang in there BL you know my well wishes are with you (and Da Wife!) during these tough times…hope everything gets resolved quickly and fairly.
anyway jot down all your WWD?! moments (going have blog subjects for days!), no stress too much, and wear sunscreen if you guys gotta “rally”

By the way, no forget my advice since I recommended D.K’s. First of all, cut that 50% second entree coupon! No be “Chang” by ordering the cheap cut of steak. Only way to go for you is the 20-22 oz.bone in rib eye. Get leftover, you get good lunch next day.
If you get Entertainment Book, cut out the Hagen Dazs coupon for buy one get one free coupon. They have a store just down the street. Order a Dazzler, walk across the street to the beach. So romantic… hurry home and…Chee Hooooo!!!!

Braddah C, I really don’t drink a lot. I usually don’t have more than two per session with a meal or late night. But if I’m with certain all night long type friends, I’ll put aside my goodbeer snobiness and drink only light beers and plenty of water. The wife or one of the kids gets the keys and when I get home, I chug the gatorade so no dehydrate. Dat way, no mo hangova.

I buy the HA from the stands cause they don’t deliver to many places in Hilo. Plus I’m working out in the field most of the time and get to post when I get back to the office or to a PC. I subscribe to the Hawaii Tribune but I’m reading mostly da-udda-day kine news. I read the story in the HA den couple days latter, I see it in Local paper WWD??? I though we get da kine Internet and computers la-dat? One HILO DJ, Walta Pacheco, used to say on his radio show, “You Up To Date Baby!!!” Not so with our paper. That why I like to read the HA. Tell Dat to your boss!

Hey CW. No, Walta got canned again several years ago. I cannot count how many times they let him go and rehire him only for him to make trouble. He thinks he’s #1. And guys used to call him just to upset him and OFF he goes. Good fun but only can handle so much. Myna Bird still on with his trading post.

I agree with Ynaku. Just recently a friend’s husband passed away (Anson Chong). Which paper had the news first? I believe it WASN’T the local Trib in Hilo! The HonAd and StarB writers had ‘local connections’ to Anson and the Big Island community whereas the writer for the Trib did NOT. They immediately contacted the family and got info and ran the articles. The Trib was a day or two late… shame on them!

opso, hey, just like me! after i turned 18 (yeah, loooong time ago) i used to always turn to the court section place in the hawaii tribune herald and see if i knew anybody. of course always get someone you know that went to high school with you yeah? funny sometimes.
