Dang.... Almost Forgot!

July 7th, 2009 by Braddah Lance

Today marks annodah year.... of survival.

It's two years ago today that I've been "legally" wed to my beautiful, wonderful, fantastic wife!

But I almost forgot!

Das right... I almost forgot our own wedding anniversary!

Has it been dat long? Have I gotten into da comfortable, no need count, we together forevah mode... already?

BAM!

SOS'd!

DA WIFE:   "I found my anniversary gift."
BL:   "Huh?"
DA WIFE:   "I found my anniversary gift."
BL:   *ears slowly tuning in* "Your wat?"
DA WIFE:   "I found a bag online that I want."
BL:   "You're buying a bag?"
DA WIFE:   "No. You're buying the bag for me as an anniversary gift."
BL:   "Anniversary?...... Oh yeah, our anniversary."
DA WIFE:   "You forgot?!"
BL:   "Heck no! I didn't hear wat you was saying."  *geez, it's July already?*
DA WIFE:   "You did forget. How can you forget?........ You picked the date!  Wassap Wit Dat!"

Yeah, really. I knew da WWD! punchline would bite me in da okole one day.

It's been a year full of ups and downs and wat's a relationship without a little bit of challenging fun?          We've had our share of arguments, laughter and "holding out" from each oddah but staying together - even for this short amount of time - is a milestone. In dis day and age, it seems like if you've past da year mark, you've already bucked da trend. And since we don't have any keiki - yet - it seems da only thing holding us together is.... Love.

So wat's love got to do with it, got to do with it, got to do with it?

Everything.

Through thick and thin.

I love dat she's there to support me in all my sport activities. I love dat she nags me about all my sport activities. I love dat she motivates me to exercise by squeezing my chub. I love dat she can amuse herself by laughing at me. I love dat I can sit here writing dis blog while she keeps bothering me because she can't sleep.

Most of all, I just love Da Wife!

So every year, on this day, I have to pay homage to my bettah half, Happy 2nd Anniversary Babe!

No scade share your mana'o about love - da good and da bad.

SHOUT OUT:   Click hea' if you like check out pics of da last day of da rest of my life.

  1. GA Bows:

Happy Anniversary! To me, communication is the key in making any relationship stand the test of time.

  2. GA Bows:

So, did you buy her the purse??? For your sake, I hope you did =)

  3. Rosette:

your so sweet...NOW DAMN IT BUY THE BAG..she can whack you with it ....!!

  4. Rosette:

you know what I do I forget the anniverssary( 18 YEARS then I say to my husband hey it is your fault you forgot the anniversarry even though he remnds me I tell him he is the one that forgot it..funny the I laugh.

  5. Rosette:

well I tell you my husband didn't have a clue what anniversary his parents didn't really celebrate..so he didn't know.
so now I tell him forget the stupid gifts don't bug me to go all over town to eat I am relaxing ..now tries to buy me junk he finally figure out what anniversary!! funny!

  6. jaydee:

Congrats to you and 'Da Wife on your 2nd anniversary, BL!

  7. Rosette:

next time buy gifts ahead of time after christmas when things are on sale then just hide that voila A GIFT JUST FOR YOU...omg...funny.....yes then I tell my husband look what you bought for me..this way my husband buy his own junk!!!

YEs I buy my own present...just my luck I get stuck with crap from him.....yes tell her make a list so this way you ar ahead ...buy it after Christmas.

  8. islandgirl in nc:

My hubby got smart when picking our wedding date... it's only a few days after my birthday! I think he thought it was easier to remember for him. It's nice for me because I get my birthday and anniversary within a week from each other. :) Hope you and the wife celebrate in style... I think it's wonderful to remember all the things about her you love!

  9. Rosette:

now that you have face book you can have it on reminder I think.

wedding date we got married four months after we met...I have no clue what date or number I was like okay get this over with!

  10. Matt:

    BL,
you just wrote about your 7/7 anniversary date last week in this blog. no tell me you forgot since then? sheesh, braddah. I think we need to start a new husband boot camp, not for how to "express your love" to your wife, but how to stay out of the kim chee.

    also, congrats.
p.s. put it on outlook (for a week ahead) for next year.

  11. roach:

    BL,

Happy Anniversary to both of you !
My wife and I have stopped trying to predict what the other person wants for special occasions (i.e. anniversaries, birthdays, christmas, etc.) So, we just ask each other "wat u like ?". It avoids the stressing out of finding the "perfect" gift and the other person gets something that they actually want. Not very romantic, but it avoids getting someone upset. Now, if I can safely tell my wife that I really want a 21 year old, Korean girlfriend for my next birthday, life would be perfect. I know its more likely to snow in Honolulu than getting my wish !

  12. Ynaku:

Ho brah. MLC moment. You was talking about this anniversary last week and you ACTUALLY almost forgot??? tsk tsk tsk :?

Happy anniversary to Bruddah Lance and to the Beautiful Da Wife :P

Mrs. TK, you have our permission to SOS'd da guy if he gets out of line. And for somebody that plays so much sport, how come he chubby wubby????

  13. KAN:

Congratulations! You guyz are in it for da long haul!

The photos are just gorgeous - your photographer did a terrific job. But, braddah, were those your groomsmen or your security detail? Dem guyzes wuz huuuuuuuge! And haccome we nevah see da Wife and her bridesmaids on da cover of Vogue or someting? Mrs. BL chose good styles and colors for those dresses - they don't look "bridesmaid-y" and the ladies could wear those dresses again and still look good.

Thanks for the Feel-Good-Tuesday. I was feeling very uninspired this morning, but you've reminded me (again) what's important. Imua!

  14. hemajang:

Congratulations BL, very nice photos, thanks for sharing. As already mentioned, mark you calendar already fo next year. Hey, you only been married for 2 years...how can you forget? Yeah, easy to forget anniversaries after you been married for 35 years is my excuse but somehow I remember, although my wife may help by gently dropping hints about our anniversary. I always remember wife's birthday but I get confused on our anniversary date and our daughter's birthday. We don't exchange gifts now but go to a nice fine dining restaurant to celebrate the date.

  15. M:

    Good morning BL!

Happy anniversary and many more to come!

  16. sally:

    GOOD MORNING!!

Gotta get ready for work, will check the board tonight.

Congratulations! Always fall in love all over again. ~sigh~

  17. 9th Island Girl:

Happy anniversary! Get the bag! She deserves it!

  18. Melissa:

Awww! Happy Anniversary....and many happy returns!

  19. anklebiters:

    BL:

IF you did forget your anniversary, you probably wouldn't see your 3rd :!:

Regarding one of your previous blogs on Facebook. My soul mate found two of her best friends from college the other day while searching on FB. One now lives in Boston - she immediately moved from here after college graduation in the late '80s. The three of us would have serious conversations on life/politics/relationships back then. We lost track of each other after all of these years. In fact she was here last month visiting her parents :!: She lived just a block from Ground Zero while working in Manhattan. I'd love to hear the rest of that story from her soon.

  20. N's Mommy:

Happy Anniversary to you and your wife! Why don't you get her two bags? One for each year you were married...hahaha! Or you could (should?) get her two, one for this year's anniversary and one because you "forgot"! :o )

  21. B:

congrats to you and Mrs. BL. no doubt both of you will be together forever.

gotta say... dat nike football was da perfect touch to da wedding festivities. haha.

  22. 2B:

Brah, when you goin learn that the only good reponse when you don't know what your wife is talking about is "ok honey."

Think about it. She asks for one bag.....Ok honey......She asks for the Hope diamond.....Ok honey...One of these she was joking right? So were you.

    Congrats brah.

  23. Bre:

Congratulations!! Best wishes for you and the wife. Where are you taking her for dinner??

  24. Ocean Lover:

    Congratulations BL!!!!!!!!

    THIS was funny :

"DA WIFE: "No. You're buying the bag for me as an anniversary gift."

    With that statement.....you KNOW you're married! ;-)

But know something? I THINK the successful marriage needs the wife to "keep things in order" versus a wife that just gushes over the husband 24/7.

    Congratulations again and PLENNY MORE!

    OL

  25. kako mochi:

    yay!

    happy anniversary BL!!

wish my friend's 7/7/07 marriage turned out for the better, but she's happy and in love again...so i'm happy for her :)

    gooooooo LOVE!! *rah! rah! rah!*

  26. anklebiters:

    BL:

Is it that Angry Little Girl bag that Shauna has :?:

  27. t-roy:

happy anniversary!! another couple i know who go married on 07/07/07...just need to let her know since the year changed it's a little harder to remember the date, lol.

congrats and hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend.

  28. theDman:

Ha ha, yup it happens, the anni day seems like any other....

I got tired of forgetting all these things, so I went ahead and wrote this custom calendar program that helps me remember all the important stuff. I put my anni, all the birthdays in the program and projected them out 5 years so no need remember to mark it on the calendar next year....already there!

  29. Kage:

    Happy Anniversary!!

Here is to many more!! *clink*

  30. bamboohouse808:

    Congrats BL!!

Like I said before, 2 years is a milestone nowadays. Now go make babies so you can change numbah 2 diapers!!

  31. pink lady:

Wow! Mahalos mahalos mahalos! Our photog was terrific! She took photographs in da style Da Wife was exactly looking for so we both were very happy with it! Actually wat was posted was only about 25% I believe. She must have taken ovah a 1000 pics!

Funny you mention my friends! I was just looking at some old school pics late last night and they were - except one guy - was supah supah skinny (even me)! I'll post about it later if I remembah to.

And still to this day, I'm supah proud to say dat Da Wife practically did/arrange/make everything for da wedding from making our own invitations (envelopes too!), table cards, center pieces and choke oddah stuff. Da dresses though were all specially hand-made by one of her best friends (who was a bridesmaid also). We saved a lot of money but also Da Wife spent a lot of time so dat's da trade off.

Thanks for the Feel-Good-Tuesday. I was feeling very uninspired this morning, but you've reminded me (again) what's important. Imua!

I just "FB" a friend a couple days ago with quite da same story. We used to write actual letters to each oddah almost daily and evah since "adulthood" nevah kept in contact and then on FB she dropped in to say hi.

Is it da face to face dat people are avoiding now and spending actual time talking dat makes FB so popular - besides finding people?

gotta say... dat nike football was da perfect touch to da wedding festivities. haha.

 My friends know dat I love football so all da groomsmen and bridesmaid signed it and it was given as a small cermony gift to us.

    Da catch?

Yeah, literally it was a catch.

Da groomsman dat gave da speech was about 25-30 yards away on stage and at da end he threw it to me (ovah da two tables and our head table) and I caught it. Was funny cause wen he pumped his arm to signal dat he was going to throw it (nobody, including myself, knew he was going to do dat) I stood up and everyone gasped. Very luckily he threw it high enough to clear da tables and a perfect strike. It's on tape too!

  38. J.P.:

Happy anniversary to you guys! Here's to many more years of happiness!

  39. roach:

BL - Might as well get wat you really want cause 99.9% of da time you're gonna get it unless it's waaaay unreasonable.

so, how much was "da bag " ? If it was less than $500, no problem for a rich guy like you, right ?

  40. acuradriver02:

    BL~

    Happy 2nd Anniversary!!

Good thing you didn't forget - the folks here would not let you live that one down.

Do you exchange gifts, according to the list of anniversary gifts? Just looked - 2nd anniversary supposed to be cotton (traditional) or cotton/china (modern). What could you get that's cotton??? How about a t-shirt?? Tell Da Wife that's the tradition.

Just so you know, 3rd year is leather. The possibilities are endless...maybe you can put off that purse until next year??? There are other things, but we'll leave those unsaid, since we are a family-oriented blog, right?? For our 3rd anniversary, I ended up getting Mrs. AD02 a new Acura, with leather seats. Pretty good, eh? She was completely surprised. The salesman even helped me drive the car home (I drove my car, he drove the new car, and had another guy from the dealer drive him back). I secured the garage so her remote wouldn't work. Then when she got home, she thought there was something wrong with the garage door. Rather than getting out of the car to investigage, she calls me on the phone, from the driveway (WWD???). Anyways, I opened the garage door from the control panel in the garage and I could see her eyes getting bigger and bigger (esp once she sees the big bow on the hood of the car). I bought the car and did everything within one week...whew...because the first time I went to the dealer, they said no shipment coming in.

Just something for you to consider, as you plan your next anniversary :-)

  41. acuradriver02:

Was looking over the blog again...noticed all the women told you just get the bag. I don't know what it is about women and these bags/purses. I don't even know how many bags my wife (and all the girls in her family, especially MIL) has. But they ask for new one every year.

Not like guys - use the wallet until the thing disintegrates. My wife actually gave me a LV wallet, which I really like. But in her mind, time to get a new one. Me, I will keep using it until it's in pieces.

  42. acuradriver02:

Just had a chance to look at our pix.

That's the exact same place we got married too! Brings back a lot of memories now...

I love how the photographer had blend of color, B&W and sepia-tone photos. Really nice!!

  43. Masako:

Happy Anniversary! Best wishes for many more. What kind of bag did you get her?

  44. KAN:

I don't know what it is about women and these bags/purses.

acuradriver02 - not all women are like that. I am very fussy about my purses, but they're always black and always get choke pockets. I wear mine into the ground, and I have two at a time at the most. No D&B, no Gucci, no Versace, no Kate Spade (maybe Fossil, but that's the only "brand name" I even look at), and I try not to spend more than $50 per bag.

I'd rather spend my money on good food. See prior discussion of Daniel's Broiler. (No, I don't spend money on shoes either.)

  45. ManekiNekko:

Happy Anniversary to you and your lovely bride.
You made it past the 08-08-08 deadline so it's all good.

Big time congratulations on your second anniversary Braddah Lance and Mrs. Braddah Lance! Funny story! Good thing you let her choose her own present too. Thanks to your Mrs. for letting you share all your funny and interesting stories with everybody.

  55. BananaFysh:

Congrats on your second anniversary, BL and Da Wife! :D

Ho boy BL, not so good when you forget! I picked the date for our wedding too, so I no more excuse to forget either. ;)

Hope your DK's night out was good! :)

  56. snow:

Congratulations BL and to Mrs. BL (for surviving being married to BL this long! hee hee... kidding, kidding! )! But, BL... like the rest of the folks, how could you forget if you just did a combined celebration (which I hope you both enjoyed, by the way!)? Aisus, you MLC (I'm not just talking "MLC moments!" ha ha!)!!! You cannot be in denial anymore!

I think one of the most important things to show your love is to show your appreciation. Not only on special days but every day. Sometimes we get so busy with our every day lives that we start to take things for granted. It doesn't have to be with a gift or anything, just letting the person know that you appreciate them is a great thing!

  57. Coconut Willy:

    Congrats on year 2 BL.

What did you get? A new truck? H3T?

  58. 2B:

Was on one trip for couple weeks, but I guess nevah been gettin da call. Maybe I got kicked off da team. Just as well had one sick kid last week so i couldn't go anyway.

  59. Ynaku:

Sorry brah. I neva like get hit by her big bag.

  60. Tankobu:

Finally got to see your pictures, beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Looks like you and da mrs. had a fantastic first dance! What song did you dance to?

  61. bB:

    congrats and happy anniversary.

hopefully that bag is not one of those $1000 bags.

  62. King Katonk:

Happy Anniversary to you and DBH (da bettah half).

Most married couples will confess the first couple years are definitely the hardest. As long as you both are on the same page then you'll be able work through all the ups and downs. It's just like coaching a sports team; you have to find creative ways to keep your relationship growing in the right direction.

I'm starting to sound like Dr. Laura or for that matter, John Wooden. But believe me, I do not have that much wisdom.

  63. King Katonk:

    BL,
I noticed on a couple of the photos you looked teary eyed.

Fess up...I know that's how you're going to look when you open the Visa bill for the wife's new bag.

  64. David In Oregon:

Hah? You almost fo-got yo wedding anniversary? Auwe!! You just lucky da wife's WWD wasn't followed up with a few false cracks. Othawise BL could have a new meaning. Instead of BL = Braddah Lance, BL would mean buss up lolo. :-D

I think you have to use the technique from one of your previous blog entries, and combine multiple occasions into one, including the wedding anniversary.

  65. Bre:

Hey BL!! I actually do read every day however I have not been able to since 7/3. The office was closed, vacation and a funeral. I knew you were going to DK Steakhouse but did not realize it was for your anniversary. Sorry!! I hope you had a great time. I can't wait to see the pics.

  66. RN2B:

Aloha Lance & Terri, so sorry i missed your anniversary again. i hope the 2nd time around (year) is still in the honeymoon phase. just keep it real, honest, and communicate big time.
eh lance wen we goin lunch?!
    c'ya

  67. Braddah Lance:

    roach:
so, how much was "da bag " ? If it was less than $500, no problem for a rich guy like you, right ?

Rich guy like me? Uh, I (we) not rich. We just made good financial choices and live debt free - for now. And heck yeah, it was less than $500.... I'm not undah da influence.

    acuradriver02:
Good thing you didn't forget - the folks here would not let you live that one down.

I know dat! But then again, I may not of have mentioned it on WWD! if dat happened cause I would have been all buss up from Da Wife.

Do you exchange gifts, according to the list of anniversary gifts? Just looked - 2nd anniversary supposed to be cotton (traditional) or cotton/china (modern). What could you get that's cotton??? How about a t-shirt?? Tell Da Wife that's the tradition.

I was wondering who followed dat cause I thought some of da things on da "list" was kinda off. Who da heck made da list anyways? Their should be an updated "modern" list - maybe we go make one on WWD!

For our 3rd anniversary, I ended up getting Mrs. AD02 a new Acura, with leather seats. Pretty good, eh? She was completely surprised....

You know, next year would be WWD! 3rd anniversary too in case you'd like to celebrate it with me....... *hint hint*

I don't know what it is about women and these bags/purses....But they ask for new one every year.

Well not Da Wife. She's a very fashionable woman but still she's extremely reasonable in being dat she doesn't need one EVERY year.... which helps me out a lot!

Not like guys - use the wallet until the thing disintegrates.

    Jus' like our BVD's!

Just had a chance to look at our pix....That's the exact same place we got married too! Brings back a lot of memories now...
I love how the photographer had blend of color, B&W and sepia-tone photos. Really nice!!

Oh yeah? Wat a coinky-dink. It's a great place (not surah about it now since there's been a ton of changes) and it was really fun! Our photog was absolutely terrific! She really has an eye for photography and believe it or not she was pregnant at the time too!

Happy Anniversary to you and your lovely bride.
You made it past the 08-08-08 deadline so it's all good.
